SCOTTISH OPEN
The band attended the Scottish Open Championships on 20 November and gave a very good performance, albeit from an early draw (No. 2 of 15 Bands) John Ward Directed the band through an excellent and confident rendition of "and when the river told" by Simon Dobson. Simon, along with the 2 other adjudicators Howard Snell and Hannes Buchegger gave the Band complimentary comments which can be viewed via the Contest results page link. We are now gearing up for another busy time ahead over Xmas with concerts and carol playing.

FANTASY FOOTBALL
The 2010~11 is well underway and we have already had 2 months of activity.
The front runners are Audrey and Jayne's team 'St Magners' who got off to a cracking start by winning managers of the Month for August. Despite a fight back by Mal and Helen's team 'Second XI' in winning Managers of the Month for September, the Magners girls remain steadfast. Still a long way to go though so watch this space.

90th Spring Festival ~ Senior Cup
The band played an excellent performance of Philip Sparkes 'The Year of the Dragon' under the Baton of our new resident Conductor Steve Malcolm at the 90th Spring Festival Contest (Senior Cup) in Blackpool. We were desperately unlucky not to gain a top 4 spot which would have qualified us for the the Grand Shield Contest in 2011, repeating last years 5th placing out of 20 Bands from an early No.3 draw.
Other Bands from our (Northern) Area in the Senior Cup Contest, EYMS and NASUWT Riverside finished behind us in 8th and 11th positions respectively.
The Judges, David Read and David Childs were complimentary in their remarks, a copy of which are now on the site. Click here to read the remarks
This was our first contest under Steve and we are already eagerly looking forward to many more.

AREA CONTEST
The Band put in an excellent performance at the contest under the baton of Alan Morrison and were unlucky not to have qualified for the finals in London, coming in 3rd place behind Reg Vardy and Chester-Le-Street Riverside Bands. Fishburn's Bass section were awarded the prize for best basses at the contest against some stiff competition, so well done to them. Overall, the Band played George Lloyd's exciting English Heritage to a high standard which was commended by the Judge, John Berryman, but just wasn't enough on the day to capture that elusive 1st or 2nd place.
